I know how it's difficult to subscribe to the different things proposed by BU when you don't know how it works.
So, I will discuss some important points to avoid problems.
- Food:
If you live "on-campus", you have to subcribe to one of the plans proposed by Boston University.
I choose this plan: 250 Plan, so I have 250 meals per semester and $540 per semester on my card that I can use in some places on the campus.
We have 5 residence dining rooms where you can eat, try them and choose your favorite one! Don't worry about the food, you have a large choice and everyday they cook different meals. Hamburgers are not the only thing you are going to eat in BU!
- Textbooks:
In the United-States, books are very expensive. If you don't want to use internet, you can go to Barnes and Noble, it's easy to get them but expensive about §100-200 for a book (you can find a store at Kenmore Square).
On internet, you can rent or buy them on Amazon, Ebay or textbook.com., and it's definitly cheaper.
- Jobs:
With the F-1 visa, you can only work on-campus. You can go to the student employment office, 881 Commonwealth Avenue (http://www.bu.edu/seo/), they give you the jobs available with the adress to contact the employer.
You can also go directly to the GSU for example and ask to talk to the manager.
Usually, they will pay you between $8-10 per hour.
- Links:
You will use some important links as the Student Link and also the Blackboard.
The Student Link is very useful because you can find everything that concern you (current schedule, your account balance, your grades...).
On the Blackboard, you will find some of your course documents, your assignments..
- Facilities:
BU's facilities are just amazing, you have to try them because I'm sure that you will love them as much as I am.
-Fitrec: it is located on West Campus, it's a huge center where you can use exercise equipments for free! You can also subscribe to some classes: dance, climbing, swimming, tennis... Enjoy it!
-Place to work: you can find a great library, Mugar, near the GSU, where you can work, have access to some computers, books... But my favorite place to work is definitly the School of Management (3rd floor), it is peaceful, I really like the atmosphere.
